Why we build from Den Haag and Prishtina
On the boring, durable advantage of two offices — one near the customer, one near the talent — and how we actually run it day to day.
Blocify runs commercially from the Netherlands and operationally from Kosovo. People ask why; the honest answer is that one is near our customers and the other is near a generation of extremely good, extremely under-priced specialists.
Den Haag is where the contracts get signed, the partnerships happen and the regulatory conversations stay short — it is the seat of government, and half our enterprise clients are within a tram ride of the Beatrixkwartier. Prishtina is where the software gets written, the support floor runs and the team actually grows.
Two time zones away is not a problem; two cultures away would be. We invest heavily in shared rituals: weekly demos, paired reviews across teams, two onsites a year. The whole company is in one room four weeks a year, no exceptions.
The failure mode we watch for is the one every distributed company has: the office where decisions happen and the office where work happens drifting apart. Our defence is that practice leads sit in Prishtina, not Den Haag. If the technical standard lives where the commercial conversations happen, the delivery office becomes a supplier.
If you are a founder anywhere thinking about offshoring, do not. Build a real second office, hire senior people into it, give them ownership and visit often. That is the difference between a team and a vendor.
